Lamisil For Nail Fungus
Nail fungus is a condition which occurs when yeast-like bacteria known as Candida start flourishing in your body, and are able to take root and grow under your finger nails or toe nails. Nail fungus is more common on toe nails than finger nails, because fungus thrives in areas of the body which are warm, moist and dark. Since many people wear closed shoes most of the day, this often provides a ripe environment for the fungus to develop.
Some people are more prone to getting nail fungus than others. Athletes for instance, tend to wear tight fitting gym shoes which can make their feet sweat. This adds moisture to the warm, dark environment inside the shoes, which increases the chance of fungus being able to develop and flourish. If the shoes are also too tight, the rubbing caused by this on your toes can create small abrasions which make it easier for fungus to get in under your nail.
Nail fungus can also be problematic for anyone who has a severe disease such as HIV or Diabetes, which weakens the immune system. Taking certain hormone changing medications, immune supressing drugs, and antibiotics can also make you prone to getting nail fungus infections as well.
If you develop signs of a nail fungus infection in your toe nails or finger nails, your doctor might recommend a product named Lamisil for nail fungus. This medication is available by prescription only, and generally tends to come in an oral pill form. You usually take Lamisil for nail fungus once each day for six to twelve weeks, depending upon how severe your nail fungus problems are, and where they're located. Usually finger nail fungus requires less medication time than toe nail fungus does.
Using Lamisil for nail fungus might be quite expensive if your insurance doesn't cover it. Prices range widely, but generally you can buy Lamisil at some online discount pharmacies for about $250 for a month's supply. And costs have been reported to be as high as $1000 for a month's supply at regular offline pharmacies.
Lamisil is designed to kill the fungus infections from the inside out like regular antibiotics do. After you've finished taking all the Lamisil for your nail fungus, the medication stays in your body for many months afterwards, to continue working on erradicating the fungus infection completely.
Lamisil also comes in a topical cream ointment that can be used on nail fungus externally, but many people feel this doesn't work as well as the oral Lamisil medication does.
Many people have been able to fully resolve their problems with nail fungus using Lamisil oral medications. Some however, were unable to take it long enough to fully solve the fungus problems.
Lamisil has some dangers associated with it that make it impossible for some people to take at all, and others cannot take it long enough to solve their fungus problems. The American FDA issued a warning about Lamisil oral nail fungus medication, because it has been associated with liver toxicity, liver failure, and in some cases death. If your doctor choose to put you on Lamisil to treat your nail fungus, they'll probably require regular liver functionality tests to be sure you're not developing any problems.
